Frequently Asked Questions

Before we work together, please read through the following frequently asked questions. If you have a question that isn’t addressed below, feel free to reach out using the contact form here.

General & Fit

What does your web design process look like from start to finish?

First, we’ll discuss your vision for your website. This includes the design elements (like font choices and color schemes) as well as any practical preferences (eCommerce integration, a blog, contact forms, etc.). Once I have a solid idea of what you want, I’ll begin designing along the agreed-upon timeframe. When the site is ready, you’ll be able to review it before it goes live for any final revisions. Then I hand over the controls to you, and you’re all set!

How much does a new website cost, and what are your payment terms?

My fee for a standard non-eCommerce website of 1-5 pages is $4000 USD. A standard site includes 1-5 core pages (e.g., Home, About, Services, Contact). It can also include a basic blog setup (styling the main page and post layout), but does not include writing or uploading blog content. If you want additional features, or you’re crunched for time and need a site ASAP, this fee will be adjusted accordingly for you to review and approve before I begin.

How long does it typically take to design and build a website?

For a standard site without an integrated shop, it takes about 3-4 weeks to complete, outside of any additional revision requests or last-minute changes. This 3-4 week timeline begins only after I have received all required, organized content, access details, and the deposit.

What platform do you use to build websites?

I prefer working with WordPress for its ease of use and flexibility. However, I have experience with a variety of other platforms including, but not limited to: Shopify, Squarespace, Weebly, Wix, and Tumblr.

What information and materials do I need to provide before we begin?

Aside from your design preferences, I’ll need any logos, images, and text that you wish to include on your site. If you’re unsure where to begin when it comes to writing, we can discuss additional copywriting services.

Do I need to write the text and provide photos, or do you handle that?

Yes, I do request that all clients provide the images and text for their sites. However, I do offer copywriting services for an additional fee.

Will my website be mobile-friendly and optimized for SEO?

Of course! Every site I create is responsive on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices, and includes basic on-page SEO best practices (e.g., clean code, mobile optimization, optimized meta-data). Page-one rankings require ongoing marketing, which is not included.

Do you handle domain registration and website hosting?

No, you’ll need to have a registered domain and hosting set up before we work together. I recommend using Namecheap for domain registration, and KnownHost for web hosting, but it’s ultimately up to you.

Will I be able to update the website myself once it launches?

Yes. I’ll provide you with a PDF guide that covers the basics once my work is done.

How many rounds of revisions are included in the project?

Before your site goes live, you’ll be able to look things over and request up to 2 revisions totaling no more than 2 hours of work. Revisions cover minor refinements (swapping images, tweaking colors/text). They do not cover major redesigns, new features, or rewritten copy. Changes outside the original scope are treated as a new project or billed at $75/hr.

Who owns the website once the project is paid for and completed?

Upon full payment, you retain ownership of the final deliverables. Third-party tools, plugins, themes, or licensed fonts remain subject to their respective licenses.

What happens if my website breaks or needs updates after it goes live?

Before launch, I test the website thoroughly. I offer a 7-day post-launch window to correct any bugs directly related to my build. After this, or for issues caused by third-party plugins, client edits, or hosting, fixes are the client’s responsibility.

Can you integrate custom features like eCommerce, booking tools, or blogs?

Yes! Standard sites can include a basic blog setup. eCommerce, booking tools, and other custom features can be integrated for an additional fee.

What makes Nightcrawler Web Design different from other web designers?

I’m an artist with a background in web design, copywriting, SEO, and social media marketing. I have an eye for design and experience with marketing, so I know what works and how to help you stand out. I treat my sites as an extension of each client, rather than a simple landing page. I believe that your website should reflect your unique personality and highlight your talents rather than hiding them behind generic templates.

Do you only work with local clients, or can we work remotely?

I work 100% remotely and communicate exclusively in writing via email to ensure we both have a clear paper trail.

What size or type of businesses do you typically work with?

I work with businesses of all sizes, from universities to individual artists.

Can you redesign my existing website, or do you only build from scratch?

I’d be happy to help you redesign an existing website! The fee will depend on the state of the existing site and the desired changes or additions.

Can I see examples of your past work or a portfolio?

You can view my portfolio here.

How do I know if we’re a good fit to work together?

My ideal client is a creative who has a distinct vision for their site, is comfortable working together remotely via email, and is thorough and prepared with all the required resources.

How do we get started on a project?

Contact me here, and let me know the type of service you’re interested in, any additional features you’d like, your timeframe, and any other relevant information. The more details, the better!

Pricing, Payments & Contracts

Do you offer fixed-price packages or custom quotes?

Standard non-eCommerce sites (1-5 pages) begin at $4000 USD. A standard site includes 1-5 core pages (e.g., Home, About, Services, Contact). It can also include a basic blog setup (styling the main page and post layout), but does not include writing or uploading blog content. If you want something more complex, like a built-in shop or a custom feature, I can provide a custom quote.

What specific factors affect the overall cost of a website?

The number of pages, whether or not you want a built-in shop, any custom features you’re interested in, and the timeframe.

Are there any ongoing or hidden costs I should expect (e.g., premium plugins, hosting, domain renewals)?

There are no hidden fees from me. However, clients are responsible for their own domain, hosting, and any optional premium third-party tools/plugins required for custom features. Any associated purchase, subscription, renewal, or licensing fees for premium third-party tools are the client’s responsibility unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Please note that I am not liable for third-party software outages or updates.

Do you offer payment plans?

Payments are to be delivered in two parts:

  • 50% to start (this is a non-refundable deposit)
  • 50% due before the site goes live OR 30 days from the project start date—whichever comes first. The project start date is the date the signed contract and initial deposit have both been received.

Keep in mind that the site will not go live until I have received the final payment.

If the client fails to respond or provide necessary content for 30 days, the project will be considered paused. A restart fee of $250 will be required to resume work, and any outstanding balance becomes immediately due.

What types of payments do you accept?

I accept secure payments via ACH/Bank Transfer and all major Credit/Debit cards. For larger project invoices, ACH bank transfer is preferred. If you are paying via ACH, you can do so directly through the secure invoice link provided.

Do you provide a formal contract or agreement before starting?

Yes. After our initial discussion where we clarify your needs and timeframe, I’ll send you a contract to sign. This helps us to both stay on track with the project and avoid any unnecessary surprises.

Timeline & Design Process

What can affect or delay the project timeline?

Failure to deliver all of the required content, access credentials/logins, and feedback in a timely manner can delay the project’s start and finish.

Lack of communication can also result in a significant delay.

If the client fails to respond or provide necessary content for 30 days, the project will be considered paused. A restart fee of $250 will be required to resume work, and any outstanding balance becomes immediately due.

Can you complete a website on a tight deadline or rush schedule?

Yes, for an additional fee. This will depend on the deadline and the site specifications.

How involved will I need to be during the design process?

Once you provide me with your design preferences, site needs, and any images, text, and login details, you can sit back and relax. If I have any questions I’ll contact you via email.

Will I be able to see the website and give feedback while it is being built?

I work efficiently without mid-build previews to keep on schedule. However, once the design is complete, you’ll get full access to a staging site for approval and up to 2 rounds of revisions before launch.

Can you match my current branding? What if I don’t have a brand identity yet?

If you have a color scheme or logo already set, I’ll integrate it into your website. If you don’t have a brand identity yet, you can let me know your color and font preferences before I begin. Please note that I do not offer logo design or brand kit services.

Technical Details & Integrations

Will my website be fast, secure, and include an SSL certificate?

Because you will be managing your own web hosting, achieving top performance is a shared responsibility. On the design side, I’ll ensure that your site is built for speed by optimizing images, utilizing clean code, and installing lightweight caching tools. I also implement standard WordPress security best practices. However, your SSL certificate and server-level security must be provided by your web host. Most modern hosts include a free SSL certificate.

Please note that by working together you agree to provide web hosting compatible with WordPress or the agreed-upon platform and ensure an SSL certificate is enabled prior to final launch. I am not responsible for slow site speeds caused by inadequate hosting hardware.

Can you connect my website to my social media accounts and email marketing platforms?

Yes! I can add links to your existing social media profiles from your website, and if you’re using an email marketing platform like Mailchimp or MailerLite, we can set up a newsletter form on your site so that you can start gaining subscribers.

Do you set up Google Analytics and Google Search Console?

No. I focus strictly on design and development. Setting up Analytics is best handled by your SEO or marketing specialist.

Will my new website show up on page one of Google?

No one can guarantee page-one rankings, as Google relies on hundreds of factors beyond the website itself, like competition and domain age. However, I build every site using basic on-page SEO best practices (mobile responsiveness, clean structure, optimized meta-data). While your site will be SEO-ready from day one, reaching and maintaining page-one status typically requires ongoing SEO marketing (like content creation and backlink building) after launch.

Ownership, Launch & Maintenance

Will I have full admin access to my domain, hosting, and website files?

Yes. Because I require clients to manage the domain registration and web hosting themselves, you will have full access to this.

What happens if I want to work with another designer or host in the future?

That’s totally up to you! I do ask that if you make significant changes that you remove the “Created by Nightcrawler Web Design” link in the footer, so that I’m not credited for any work done by a different designer.

What exactly happens on launch day? Do you test the site before it goes live?

Once I’m done designing, you’ll be able to view the staging site to approve the final design. When I get your go-ahead, I’ll test the site to ensure that everything works as it should, including contact forms, newsletter sign-ups, links, buttons, and any other features. After that, I’ll publish the site and hand over the reins to you!

Will you train me on how to use my new website?

I don’t offer training, but I will provide a PDF guide covering basic functions.

What is included in your ongoing maintenance or retainer plans?

I don’t offer ongoing maintenance services. Once the site is complete, it’s up to the client to maintain it.

Can you help with ongoing digital marketing after the site launches?

I don’t offer digital marketing services. After the site launches, my work is complete unless the client has hired me for additional work within the scope of my listed services.
